And where is your egg?

July 22nd, 2010 von Daniel

Handschuhfach-Ei And where is your egg?

Mine is in the glove compartment! This egg has spent most of the summer inside my car. As I just discovered it is in there since I decided to throw it in while touring from one place to another during last month’s relocation.

Good thing that I remembered to blogpost this, but once again forgot to take it out^^. I’ll give it another week at the most! It’s certainly not driving back to Schwalmtal, once the internship in Munich is over.

I wonder whether it’s boiled after the close-to-40 degrees Celcius days? After all the Deutsche Bahn recently managed to heat up its trains to 70 degrees. Imagine how practical that is! No need to use the restaurant car, just carry some raw eggs with you! Brilliant!

I am God! And you are afraid of horses!

March 5th, 2010 von Daniel

Munich is ON AIR! However, I am reporting from my extended living room as I now call my McDonald’s around the corner. You should see me, this place looks like my office now. Laptop connected to the power plug, mp4 player and cell phone connected to the computer. And to complete the nerd picture: My wireless Internet adapter is connected to a 30cm UMTS antenna and I wear headphones.

All this equipment is useful, but also a bit unpractical. It would have been clearly a problem yesterday night when I met Mister Crazy Guy. By now I know all the homeless people as I hang out with them pretty much every day to check my mails. Let me introduce to you Mr Crazy Guy. He got all people’s attention when he ordered A BIG MÄC! Shouting and repeating his order 5x times he got already more attention than he actually deserved. Then he started to talk to all people around him… he even followed some people. Ironically he kept on mumling: “Don’t let them make you to a fool!”.

After a couple of minutes I finally answered as he was sittung next to me. What followed was a series of bizarre questions:

  • Did you know that James Dean died?
  • What is Claudia Schiffer doing? She fucks! was his immediate answer to his own question

Then he felt it was time for some statements, of which “I am God!” was the ice breaker. He went on with his analysis, saying that he KNOWS I would be afraid of horses. When introducing himself I had to use my second hand to interrupt an odd handshake he offered to me.

This encounter with a self-proclaimed-McDonald’s God is clearly a sign from above: I need to stop visiting this place for Internet access. I need it at my own place, dammit!

I am God! And you are afraid of horses!

Take a London cap, good ole lad!

November 5th, 2009 von Daniel

Take a London cap, good ole lad!

Ever ridden in a London cap? Unfortunately I never did - despite living in that city for a brief, but exciting period of time. I was more of the bus riding type of guy. Now I was fairly surprised recently - twice in the same week actually. The reason was: I passed a real black cap - not necessarily worth a blog entry. UNLESS you are on your way to a Dutch uni.

The first encounter got me day dreaming. I was imiganing a real English gentlement, wearing bowler and suit, somewhere in Central London. He waves a taxi, takes a seat in the back and tells the driver: Good day lad! To Mönchengladbach, please!”. That must have been happening just a couple of hours before the London Cap encounter on the Autobahn. Of course we all know that this scenario is one of the rather less probable ones… and how even worse the chances are that an Englishman would be able to pronounce this tongue twister name of a city. Could have been Düsseldorf or Cologne as well, certainly a German town as it was going the other way, appearently coming from the Netherlands. The license plate was yellow with black letters! The second encounter later that week took some of the magic away. I could clearly identify it as a Dutch license plate.

Still wouldn’t you wanna know how much it would cost to just hop into a London cap and drive to Germany? For the sake of simplicity the calculation does not include the farry transport or a ride through the Eurotunnel. Just the roughly 550km from London to Mönchengladbach. Then this great endevour should cost about £1,40 initial fee and about 80 pence per kilometre. Et voilà: We have £441, or let’s just make it £450 including a tip. Better not apply any percentage rules here as we still need money for the cap ride back to the Island - which will be costly enough.

I am already looking up the farry travel price… ^^

Remember the Win95 days…

September 29th, 2009 von Stephan

www.winhistory.de

Do you remember the installation of Windows 95?

At first you need to pull out a briefcase out of 1,44 inch discs to install your drivers for the CD-Rom or harddrive….after 3 hours of tweaking and tricking out the system, you had a working system….

Three months later, the situation was completely different…your system needed 10minutes to boot and the final solution was:

format c: (y)

Elvis Invasion imminent!

August 23rd, 2009 von Daniel

fatelvis Elvis Invasion imminent!Yesterday’s philosophical BBQ round brought up the evergreen of ridiculous topics: ELVIS.

When I mentioned my favourite stupidity about exponential growth I pointed out that in a few years a substantial amount of the world population should be “Elvisized”. I heard that some time ago, somewhere and didn’t really know any specifics, so I could not provide any details when asked for.

But now is the time to share this:

According to “Weasel” of the ZPG Reporter there were 48 Elvis impersonators when the great King died. I heard somewhere else that there were only three while Elvis was still performing, but I cannot cite a source here. Anyways, Weasel found out in 1977 that considering the growth rate of Elvis impersonators (in 1996 there were 7,238!) by 2012 every fourth person (!) on Earth will be an Elvis impersonator. [McKee, Sparing Nature - The Conflict Between Humen Population Growth and Earth’s Biodiversiy, p. 91]
Now we all know there are plenty of well performing and not-so-well performing Elvis copies around. But considering that 2012 is pretty close and obviously most of us do not have too many Elvises as neighbours there can be only one explanation: The wave of Elvises will take us by surprise and a global conspiracy will be revealed, inevitably leading to world dominanation of people in white suits and outdated haircuts!

Better be prepared and don’t say I haven’t warned you!
